Pentagon chief says US struck another drug boat in Eastern Pacific
"Earlier today, at the direction of President (Donald) Trump, the Department of War carried out a lethal kinetic strike on yet another narco-trafficking vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization (DTO) in the Eastern Pacific," Hegseth wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, using the department’s rebranded title.
According to Hegseth, US intelligence had confirmed that the vessel was "involved in illicit narcotics smuggling" and had been "transiting along a known narco-trafficking route and carrying narcotics."
He reported that four male "terrorists" aboard the vessel were killed in the operation, which took place "in international waters," while emphasizing that no US personnel were injured.
"The Western Hemisphere is no longer a safe haven for narco-terrorists bringing drugs to our shores to poison Americans," Hegseth declared.
The strike represents the latest in a string of US attacks on suspected drug-trafficking boats under the administration’s anti–“narco-terrorism” initiative.
Hegseth also recently revealed that the Pentagon is establishing a new joint task force within the US Southern Command’s jurisdiction to intensify operations targeting drug-trafficking networks.
