U.S. Carries Out Strike on Drug-Trafficking Ship in Eastern Pacific
"Earlier today, at the direction of President (Donald) Trump, the Department of War carried out a lethal kinetic strike on yet another narco-trafficking vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization (DTO) in the Eastern Pacific," Hegseth wrote on the social media platform X, referring to the Defense Department by its rebranded name.
According to Hegseth, U.S. intelligence had identified the vessel as "involved in illicit narcotics smuggling" while "transiting along a known narco-trafficking route and carrying narcotics."
The secretary reported that four male "terrorists" aboard the boat were killed during the strike, which was "conducted in international waters,” and emphasized that no U.S. personnel were injured.
"The Western Hemisphere is no longer a safe haven for narco-terrorists bringing drugs to our shores to poison Americans," he added.
This operation represents the latest U.S. action against suspected drug-trafficking vessels as part of the Trump administration’s push against “narco-terrorism.”
Hegseth also recently revealed that the department is establishing a joint task force under the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) to target drug trafficking organizations in the region.
