India, Poland voices differences on policies linked Russia, Pakistan
India’s concerns were raised during a bilateral meeting on Monday, where New Delhi addressed Poland’s diplomatic engagement in South Asia, including a recent visit by Poland’s foreign minister to Pakistan. Indian officials emphasized that partners should avoid actions that could undermine security in the region.
India’s foreign minister stated that New Delhi expects its international partners not to help “fuel terrorism” in neighboring areas.
“Poland should display zero tolerance on terrorism, and not help fuel the terrorist infrastructure in our neighborhood,” he said, referring to concerns linked to Pakistan.
Tensions were reportedly triggered by the Polish foreign minister’s visit to Pakistan in October 2025, which came just months after renewed hostilities between India and Pakistan in May. India has also expressed dissatisfaction with European Union sanctions affecting its trade and energy ties with Russia, arguing that the measures unfairly single out New Delhi. The foreign minister described the “selective targeting of India is unfair and unjustified.”
The EU has imposed multiple rounds of sanctions on Russia since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022. Despite these measures, Russia remains one of the bloc’s major gas suppliers. In the latest sanctions round, restrictions were applied to India’s second-largest private oil refinery, Nayara Energy’s Vadinar facility in Gujarat, which is partially owned by a Russian energy company.
Responding to India’s criticism, Poland’s foreign minister defended the EU’s sanctions policy, stating, “We have sanctioned Russia, but that was because Russia broke the Budapest Memorandum, under which Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons.”
